The Miramar Air Show in Northern San Diego is generating a buzz this year with news of active duty military patriots being grounded. Instead of the captivating Blue Angels flying as usual, the headliners of this year’s Miramar Air Show will be The Patriots. The Patriots wow the crowd year after year, but there is talk of whether or not The Patriots will be able to draw the same crowd.
Due to the sequestration budget cuts made earlier this year, the dem
onstration teams have been grounded. 30 out of 56 shows scheduled for the Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds have been cancelled this year due to the lack of military participation.
In a recent poll taken by U-T San Diego 72 percent of voters said that they would be unlikely to attend the air show in North County without the Blue Angels demonstration team performing. Despite the fact that they are unable to perform, the Marine Corps will still show off a variety of active and vintage aircraft as well as ground combat equipment. The attractions include the Shockwave Jet Truck which reaches speeds of over 300 mph and the events will still conclude with a massive fireworks display.
There is still much to look forward to at this event that many members of the Bernardo Moving staff enjoys each year. From the variety of civilian pilots to beautiful air craft to the “Great Wall of Fire,” there is still much to be seen at the 2013 Miramar Air Show in Northern San Diego.
